Sun, Sea, Relax: the beaches of Fano

If you booked a holiday house in the hinterland of Pesaro-Urbino province and are looking for some tips on the nearest beache, this article will surely help! Today I'm going to tell you about Fano, a seaside resort north of Le Marche that is very popular and easily accessible from the motorway, which guarantees good connections with smaller towns of the hinterland. Suntan lotion and beach towel in our bag, there we go! :)

The coastline is divided into Lido and Sassonia, both characterised by low coasts. The big difference is that the first area is with sand and the second one with gravels. The southern area of the coast is divided into three areas named Torette, Ponte Sasso and Metaurilia, whereas to the north it extends up to the border with the beach city of Pesaro, near Fosso Sejore. Private equipped beach alternate with stretches of free beach, where you can always find services such as bars, restaurants or showers within a short distance.
The shallow and safe waters, their quality and the welcoming facilities are the reasons that make these beaches particularly suitable for families with children. For several years, Fano has been awarded the Blue Flag, which certifies the environmental quality of the sea, of the coast and the welcoming services for visitors.

People who love biking but also those who are less experienced should know that on the waterfront north of Fano there is a bicycle lane that is about 12 km long and leads to Pesaro. Between the area of Lido and Sassonia there's an important fishing harbour in addition to the tourist harbour Marina dei Cesari, a modern and functional dock where many boats and yachts moor.

Let's have a closer look at some of the most famous beaches in Fano!

Sassonia

This is my favourite one, because I really don't like getting dirty in the sand...even if sadly, gravel is not much comfortable! The beach is located south of the southern pier of the tourist harbour and it is all covered with gravels carried downstream over the centuries by the Metauro River. Here the sea is blue and water level is immediately high, perfect for swimming. There are equipped bathing sites with bars and restaurants but also free spaces. There are also schools for sailing, windsurfing, surfing and kyte, with the possibility of renting all equipment and join courses for beginners. Take note if you choose this type of beach: bring a plastic mat with you or alternatively a beach chair to sit comfortably and relax in the sun; then, rock shoes to avoid the hassle of stones and if you already have a sun umbrella, make sure it has a pointed end to plant it firmly. Otherwise, in any store around the area you can buy a magic metal support - you'll see that all the regulars keep it jealously! :)

Lido

Lido is a historic beach of Fano that stretches between the west pier of the tourist harbour and the one of the Arzilla stream. It has a wide beach with golden sand, shallow and generally warm waters, so it is perfect for children. The beach is well equipped with sun umbrellas, sun beds and play areas. In the evening the seaside promenade is particularly popular with tourists and locals due to the presence of bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours. You can't miss a happy hour at sunset after a day of sun and sea! In the Lido area most of the summer events take place, such as concerts, street markets and food festivals, including the renowned International Festival of Brodetto (local fish soup).

La Spiaggia dei Gabbiani (Seagulls'beach)

Located in the area Madonna Ponte, this is a gravel beach divided into three different sections: one equipped for children, one for sports and one dedicated to relaxation. Water level is relatively low.

Arzilla Beach

It's a sandy beach and offers many services such as bars, eateries and equipped bathing sites, such as the Arzilla Beach Village which has many comforts including a pool and whirlpool. In this area there is also a free public beach where you can bring your 4-legged friends.

And when you get tired of the sea, you can have a tour of the beautiful historic center!
